I am a Consultant General & Breast surgeon at the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust based at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, and the Kent & Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury.
My private practice is at the One Ashford Hospital, Ashford and BMI Chaucer Hospital, Canterbury.
I qualified in 1980 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB) and undertook specialist surgical training in several hospitals in the south east of England leading to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1990.
Following further studies and research in the application of Artificial Intelligence in Breast Cancer Prognosis (Artificial Neural Networks in Breast Cancer Prognosis), I was awarded an MSc degree in the Practice of Surgery from the University of Kent at Canterbury in 2004.
I hold the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in General Surgery awarded by the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) and am listed on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register.
I have over 35 years experience in all aspects of general surgery encompassing most subspecialties with particular interest in the open mesh repair of hernias and day case surgery.
My subspecialty interest is Breast surgery with broad experience in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and benign breast disease including the genetic and familial pre-disposition to breast cancer and male breast problems.
I am the Lead for the Breast Multidisciplinary Meeting at the William Harvey Hospital and a member the Kent & Medway Cancer Network.
I have maintained a keen academic interest with several publications and presentations in breast cancer at national and international conferences.
My current interest is on the application of automation workflows and artificial intelligence to improve and speed up breast cancer diagnosis and treatment pathways for patients.
I am a member of the Association of Breast Surgeons, and the European Society of Surgical Oncology.
My personal interests include sports, music, personal finance, chess and travel.
